Introducing a fun and family-friendly concept for ever-changing outdoor play – the 3-in-1 climbing frame from internationally beloved brand BERG. If your outdoor space is too small for an expansive wooden structure, or you want more flexibility from your climbing frame’s features, look no further.
The BERG PlayBase comes as a simple tubular frame in two sizes, but the exciting part is that you get to choose which play accessories to combine with the base to build your own ideal climbing frame. Your family’s multi-functional climbing frame for play, sport, and relaxation is waiting for you!
Premium quality climbing frame
Its robust metal framework makes the BERG PlayBase a reliable structure for kids of all ages to play on, with a 9cm diameter tube connection system designed for rigidity while still feeling lightweight. Each base frame allows up to three accessories to be installed at any one time using carbine hooks.
With longevity in mind, the galvanised steel tubing has a 1.5mm sidewall, is powder-coated in classic black, and finished with an anti-corrosion coating for optimal rust protection. This all makes the BERG PlayBase one of the most durable and low-maintenance metal climbing frames on the market.
Minimalist design to suit all spaces
The BERG PlayBase can blend perfectly into all kinds of outdoor spaces thanks to the clean and subtle style of its patented tube design. Since the wider stability system is hidden underground, the above-ground frame takes up a relatively small footprint and doesn’t dominate your garden.
There’s no denying that BERG PlayBaseframes look elegant and modern in sleek black, with the accessories incorporating elements of natural wood and rope that bring the geometric design back to earth. The mix of minimalist powder-coated metal and natural accents can complement any garden.
No concrete required for installation
Installation of the BERG PlayBase steel playground is easier than you might expect. You don’t need to dig a deep foundation, tie down extra anchors, or pour concrete to stabilise it. Instead, you embed the underground framework 20–50cm into the ground and replace the excavated soil over the top.
This takes far less effort than constructing other climbing frame systems – all you need is a level and spade, and 2–6 hours for preparation and assembly. The lack of concrete foundations also makes it much easier to move your climbing frame if you want to relocate your BERG PlayBase to a new spot.
Create your own PlayBase configuration
As you can see, the BERG PlayBase system is an extremely versatile climbing frame platform, which you can customise to your needs by switching accessories as often as you like. Mounting and dismounting accessories is easy thanks to the carbine clips, allowing you to transform your BERG PlayBase from a playset to a fitness centre to a lounge area in minutes.
The choice is truly yours, but if you can’t choose, accessory sets are also available – featuring combinations of swings and trapezes, climbing nets with boxing bags, and more. If you’d like advice on any BERG PlayBase product we supply, you can always contact us for more information – or come and see one for yourself at the Wicken Toys display site in Milton Keynes.

BERG PlayBase FAQs
• How big is the BERG PlayBase frame?
There are only two sizes of BERG PlayBase available – the large model is 380cm wide while the medium model is 285cm wide. Despite the medium frame being smaller width wise, both frame sizes have the same height and depth – which is 245cm high and 100cm deep.
These dimensions apply to the above-ground structures, however. If you include the parts that will be hidden underground, the large is 405cm wide and the medium is 315cm wide, with both being 295cm high and 350cm deep. Your garden space will need to accommodate this.
Whichever frame size you choose, both typically require a clear space of 1.8–2.2m or 6ft–7ft in all directions around the structure. Both also come in a choice of three basic configurations that you can add accessories to as you wish – all have monkey bars along the top, but you can choose between either horizontal bars or ladders on both sides, or one of each on each side.
• Which BERG PlayBase accessories are available?
There is a wide range of BERG PlayBase accessories to choose from – though you can only use three at a time on the frame, you can buy as many as you like and keep the other parts in storage when they aren’t in use. At first, the collection only featured twelve pieces, but now there is a selection of eighteen different accessories, and BERG may release more in the future.
The BERG PlayBase PLAY collection features a variety of swings and climbing equipment, including the baby swing, wooden or rubber swing, wooden disc swing, nest swing, wooden trapeze, wooden gym rings, climbing wall, medium or large climbing net, and a basketball hoop and football net.
The BERG PlayBase LOUNGE collection is much more laidback, featuring only the nest swing and the hammock. It should be noted that both of these accessories cannot be used on the same frame at the same time, and the hammock is designed to only fit the large PlayBase frame.
Meanwhile, the BERG PlayBase SPORT collection features a bunch of equipment to make any fitness fiend or exercise newbie happy. These include a boxing bag, dip bar, pull up bar, fitness rope, and resistance bands. Of course, you can also use the wooden trapeze, wooden gym rings, basketball hoop, and football goal net to stay sporty and engage in active training.
• What is the age range for BERG PlayBase frames?
There’s no real age limit for BERG PlayBase climbing frames, because they’re truly made for the whole family to enjoy. Individual accessories may have age ranges referring to their suitability for younger children, but in general, it’s more important to pay attention to the weight restrictions.
For example, most accessories are recommended for children aged 3 years and up – though babies as young as 6 months can enjoy the baby swing seat – while the fitness equipment is recommended for older children around 14 years and up and adults who want to keep fit, too.
The key is to not exceed the maximum weight for each accessory, which should be provided in the product description and the instruction manual that comes with it. These limits can range from 50–100kg, and up to three accessories can be used at one time, roughly giving the entire set a maximum weight limit of 300kg or three to four users at a time.
Always consult the product manual before installing and using a BERG PlayBase accessory on the frame, and always ensure that younger children are supervised by an adult while playing.
